J.S. Bach - Suite No.1 in G-major: Prelude

This Prelude, from Suite No.1 in G-major, is on the one hand quite straight-forward to execute. On the other hand, it’s eternally challenging.

When is the ‘right’ time to learn this piece? I’m not going to pretend that I have an answer to that. So I’d say: when you really want to play this piece, it’s the right time to at least dip a toe into it.

My hope with this video is that I help you getting started, and I trust that you will either

1) discover that you prefer to wait for another year before you try again,

2) find a few bars that you want to incorporate into your regular practice, or

3) discover that you know enough to learn the piece and to gradually add it to your mental library of music.

Here is a link to a PDF where I’ve written a suggestion for fingerings.

And here is a link to the piece on IMSLP. (Scroll down and you’ll find the sheet music.)
