I’m currently working on some major improvements and will relaunch this course in the autumn of -26!
Hi, I’m Ragnhild Wesenberg - cellist and cello teacher based in Stockholm, Sweden.
My hope with this course is that you will discover the place that the cello can have in your everyday life.
That’s why I’m calling it a Cello Way of Life.
This might be the place for you if:
you have a cello, don’t know what to do with it, and want to see if playing it is something for you
you want to learn the basics of cello playing in the classical tradition
you want calm video tutorials… a few things pop up here and there, but I don’t think my videos qualify for the YouTube entertainment standard
This is perhaps not the place for you if:
you want to play folk music or jazz
you want to receive lots of emails
you want highly edited videos with content coming at you with a high tempo and not a second’s silence
In these 100+ pages you have a companion that is aiming to answer most of your questions as a beginner cellist. Included are also some pieces of music, scales and arpeggios.
I’ve had the pleasure of introducing adult beginners to cello playing as a part of my work. Here I have gathered many of the questions I’ve received over the years, and I give a detailed account of how to establish a technical foundation. Included is also what to think about when acquiring your equipment, looking for a teacher, and how to approach your own unique practice.

” I started playing the cello at the age of seventy-four. Maybe a crazy idea. But under Ragnhild’s guidance, full of musicality and humanity, I have learnt how to handle the cello and also making sound and even music out of it. Playing together has been very useful. After a year I am still a beginner but I will continue the joyful ride.”-Kjell Schedvins“Ragnhild is an excellent teacher for newcomers to the cello. I had zero experience with string instruments and Ragnhild gently introduced me to the intricacies of the instrument. I was given easy-to-follow strategies for independent practice at home and found her explanations of technique and pitch very clear to understand. I greatly enjoyed my lessons with Ragnhild and would recommend her to anyone- young, old, beginner or cello expert!”-Laurel Kemp”I was able to onboard myself with playing cello easily. She has been helpful and kind, and so much fun to play together with her!”-Ugur Mutlu“As an adult beginner to both the cello and to playing music in general, Ragnhild has been a great teacher for me. She has been calm, patient and very encouraging. Her teaching style is personal, and lessons have been tailored to my specific needs and interest. If you are thinking about taking lessons, I can highly recommend her as a guide to your cello journey.”-Anders Sundman
